Setra double-decker as a regular service bus in Darmstadt
17 December 2019
Stuttgart / Darmstadt. The Darmstadt-based HEAG mobiBus and Scherer Reisen Omnibus GmbH companies have opted for the Setra double-decker bus for their Express lines – and not just for its capacity, but also for the impressive comfort which the bus offers.
The daffodil-yellow S 531 DT with a silhouette of the city links up the city in Hesse with Frankfurt Airport in a 30-minute tact 365 days of the year. This service is used principally by tourists, business men and women, as well as Fraport employees.
"Since we've started using the Setra double-decker bus, we can transport around 90,000 more passengers a year. This corresponds to a growth of around 60 percent," explains Michael Dirmeier contentedly. He's the Managing Director at HEAG mobilo, the leading provider of mobility services in south Hesse.
Since 2015, his company has been using four S 431 DT buses on the route which has existed for three decades already. On a yearly basis, the buses cover a million kilometres. Now, the company is using the latest-generation double-decker buses from the Setra 500 model series. "The double-deckers are fitted with 79 seats and have room for an additional 16 standing passengers, thereby offering the best-possible economic solution whilst also being especially efficient to use in the tight space available on the city's roads. They're the flagships within Darmstadt's public transport network."
Even the baggage finds a safe space for the journey. The vehicles feature large luggage compartments which can be loaded from outside the vehicle. On the lower deck, there are further luggage compartments which the passengers can even monitor from the upper deck thanks to the screens installed there. What's more, LED lighting at the seats makes for a pleasant reading light. Free Wi-Fi access and USB sockets are also available for charging electronic devices on-board the buses which are also equipped with mobile access ramps and two wheelchair spaces each.
