30.01.2014

  • Two Setra S 412 UL buses take to the roads of the South Pacific's twin islands
  • Marama Tours purchased its first Setra bus back in 1980
  • According to Lya Cowan, Managing Director of Marama: "Thanks to their high quality standard, durability and ease of servicing, we are once again placing our trust in Setra buses"

Papéete/Neu-Ulm – The Setra sales division of EvoBus France S.S. in Sarcelles, Paris, has won the tender to supply two rural regular-service buses to coach operator Marama Tours in Tahiti. The four-week crossing made by the two Setra S 412 UL vehicles began in Le Havre (Normandy) and came to an end in Tahiti's capital of Papéete. Following their arrival there was nothing to stop the two Setra buses from being deployed on their first large operation. The journey from the point of origin in Ulm/Neu-Ulm on the Danube to the South Pacific island covered a distance of around 16,000 kilometres. Tahiti is part of French Polynesia and as a French Overseas Territory is a member of the European Union. The two Setra S 412 UL rural regular-service buses from the MultiClass 400 boast a length of 10.805 m and powerful Euro V engines from the OM457 hLA series (220 kW/299 hp), and are literally unique vehicles in the world of buses on Tahiti, which is dominated by minibuses. The vehicles succeeded in winning over Managing Director of Marama Tours, Lya Cowan, primarily with their efficiency and product quality. "We have been operating our last Setra bus for 20 years. In the meantime we have also made use of other brands of buses, but thanks to their high quality standard, durability and ease of servicing we are now once again placing our trust in Setra buses". With seating for 45 passengers, the S 412 UL buses are being used to carry tourists from Tahiti's Faa’a International Airport to their hotels, as well as to transport passengers arriving by cruise ship. If necessary, the buses will also be deployed for excursions, taking passengers to the sister island of Moorea located 25 kilometres to the west. For this they are transferred over to the island using Marama Tours' very own ferry. Customer service and the servicing of the Setra buses will be handled by Tahiti Automobiles.
